A Clean Microwave Oven is Best

There’s nothing worse than spending 20 minutes trying to chip away at old spaghetti sauce splatter or grease stains in your microwave oven. Since this household appliance gets used so much, it’s bound to get messy. If you can, wipe down any splatters immediately after they happen, but if your microwave oven has passed that point, keep reading.

How to Clean the Inside of Your Microwave Oven

There are many different ways to safely clean your microwave oven. Since food is cooked in microwaves, it’s best to avoid cleaning products and harsh chemicals; instead, opt for these hacks:

  • Cleaning with Vinegar

In a microwave-safe dish, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar, then turn the microwave oven on high for 3 minutes or until the liquid starts boiling. Let it sit for 5 minutes before removing the container and wiping down the surface.

  • Cleaning with Lemon

Combine the juice of 1 lemon with one cup of water, then put the bowl in the microwave and turn it on high for 3-7 minutes. Once done, leave the door shut and let the steam work for a few minutes before opening it, wiping down the inner surfaces, and reclaiming your good-as-new microwave.

  • Cleaning with Soap

Dish soap can cut through grease easily, making it a great tool that will help keep your microwave oven clean. Combine dish soap with warm water, then use a sponge or rag to dip in the mixture and scrub down the inside of the microwave oven.

Don’t Neglect the Outside

Though the inside is what needs to most attention when it comes to microwave oven cleanliness, don’t forget about the outside! By regularly wiping down the outside of the microwave with warm water and dish soap, you’ll cut down on greasy fingerprints and grimy areas.
